An Update on Our Older Apps:
Passing the Torch

Hey everyone! 👋 We wanted to update you on some changes with a few of our older apps. After over 9 years, a handful of our legacy apps have been acquired by other developers. This wasn’t a decision we made alone—there were a lot of people involved in creating and maintaining those apps, and it was time to hand them off.

Most of the original team behind these apps have moved on to new projects. Instead of letting these apps fade away, we wanted to make sure they’d still be supported and updated for those of you who use and enjoy them.

Who’s Taking Over the Apps?

The new caretakers for these apps are the folks at Space Mushrooms, a team with a strong track record of supporting open-source projects. They’ve agreed to keep updating the apps and, importantly, they’re committed to not charging existing users again. So if you’ve already bought one of these apps, you’ll continue to get updates at no extra cost. 🎉

Some apps, like the popular 909, are even going back to their original developers, so they’ll be in great hands.

Will This Affect My AudioKit Apps?

While a few of our older and retired apps—such as Digital D1, FM Player 2, Digitalism 2000, Bass 808, Retro Piano, AR 909, and VHS Synth—have found new homes, AudioKit is here to stay! We’re as committed as ever to creating new and innovative tools for musicians and creators like you.

For those looking for similar sounds, we’ve developed new apps that expand on some of these classics: King of Digital replaces both Digital D1 and Digitalism 2000, King of FM is the evolution of FM Player 2, and King of Bass builds on the features of Bass 808. We hope these new apps offer even more of what you love!

If you’re using one of our newer AudioKit apps: King of FM, King of Digital, King of Bass,  SAGA Synth, SNES Synth, and NERD Synth , there’s no change for you. 🙌  We’ve made sure to retain full control over our latest apps—the ones that most of you are actively using and purchasing. This ensures that we can keep delivering the quality and updates you expect from us.

Why We Made This Choice

In the end, this decision was about sustainability. These apps deserve ongoing support, but it was becoming difficult to manage them all ourselves. By handing them off to developers who are passionate about keeping them alive, we’re making sure they can continue to grow. We know this might be bittersweet for some of you, but we believe this is the best way forward.

Thank you for being part of the AudioKit community and supporting us on this journey. We’re excited about what’s next, and we’re grateful to have your support! 🌟
